Mr. Stewart Hanson, IHS’s Interim Athletic Director, began at the school this July. Mr. Hanson previously worked at the Pearl River High School as an Interim Athletic Director. In the short time that he has been at IHS, it is evident that he has already made a noticeable impact on Irvington’s athletic department by integrating himself into Irvington’s community.
Mr. Hanson started off his career at IHS by purchasing new uniforms for Varsity volleyball, soccer, field hockey, tennis teams, and the varsity boys football team. In addition, he has been present at many sporting events and practices.
“The more that you’re around, it just makes things smoother. I enjoy going to the games,” said Mr. Hanson. He credits his smooth transition into Irvington’s community to his secretary Lisa Torchia.
Ms. Torchia has responsibilities in both the athletic and technology departments, and has helped the new members of these departments feel comfortable. She has been a crucial member of both departments for as long as she has been here.
Mr.Hanson said, “All secretaries like Lisa are the unsung heroes of the athletic department.”
When he was questioned about the necessity to support to all teams, he said, “I played baseball. I could tell you who threw the ball when I got it by the pitch, you remember these things, because success, no matter how brief, no matter in what venue, stays with you, you remember your successes, which is why it’s important for me to support the teams.”
