Irvington boys swimming has completed its season with the NYSPHSAA competition which took place in Long Island at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in Eisenhower Park. AHEDIーa combined team of Ardsley, Hastings, Edgemont, and Irvingtonーplaced 45th overall in the state, tied with three other teams. AHEDI, along with 24 other teams, is part of Section I. Competing against the eight other sections of New York, Section I placed fourth overall at the meet and sixth in the federation.
Irvington swimmers, Adrien Pierce (Junior) and Connor Vincent (Sophomore) competed for the team.
Vincent swam the third leg of AHEDI’s 400 freestyle relay at prelims, helping the four man team secure a 24th place preliminary finish and a spot in the C-final for the next day. Vincent also swam the 500 yard freestyle where he placed 45th in the preliminary session.
“It was a great experience to be able to compete with the best swimmers in the state,” said Vincent. “It’s great to get to know swimmers from other schools and club teams.”
Next year Vincent hopes to swim two individual events (the maximum amount) at states and qualify for another relay.
Adrien Pierce anchored the 400 freestyle relay at finals, helping to move himself and his relay teamーJonathan Ma, Christian Lee, and Samuel Andrewsーthree places higher so they finished as 21st in the state. Pierce also competed in the 100 yard freestyle where he placed 49th at prelims. Earlier in the season he had qualified to compete in the 100 yard backstroke, and his entry time seeded him as 6th in the state, but he ended up not swimming in the event.
