This year’s Color Wars spirit week was held in two weeks instead of one. Each grade strived to earn as many points for their grade, encouraging as many students to participate.
“I love the school spirit that everyone has!” said sophomore Kate Hanna.
IHS students started with Denim Day. An unexpected “snow day” canceled school the following Thursday resulting in favorite Groutfit Day replacing Galaxy Day for the following Tuesday. The first week ended on Jersey Day, and on Monday students came in wearing red, white and blue for USA Day. On Tuesday, students wore their favorite Groutfits (grey outfits).
After tallying up the points for each day, the seniors came in first, following the sophomores, juniors, then freshmen.
Tuesday night students from each grade came in to decorate their part of the hallway with their grade’s color and theme. After each hall was scored, the juniors came in first, seniors second, freshmen third, and ending with the sophomores in last place.
On Wednesday students came in dressed in their grades color wearing their team shirts. Sophomores earned first for their shirts; freshmen came in second, seniors in third and juniors in fourth.
The first events took place in the Maher Gym where students listened to the national anthem and showed spirit for their team. To Sophomore
Aine Cleary, “Color Wars is a great opportunity for all the grades to come together and have some friendly competition.”
Next was volleyball, the sophomores came close but lost to the seniors 20-25. The senior team then went on to play the juniors where they won again. The sophomore team went on to play the freshmen. By the end, the seniors gained the most points coming in first, closely behind came the juniors, following the freshmen, then sophomores in last.
Next, the events moved onto the Campus theater. Representatives from each grade took part in the Spelling Bee. Once again the seniors scored in first, following the juniors, sophomores, and the freshmen in last.
Following this was academic challenge, where the juniors came in first, freshmen in second, sophomores in third and seniors in last.
The final event held in the auditorium was Name That Tune. The seniors earned the most points and came in first, following the juniors, sophomores, then freshmen.
Each grade then showed their creativity by competing in the art competition. The seniors scored in first, following the sophomores, juniors, and freshmen in last.
Heading back to the Maher Gym, each grade participated in a big game of Knockout. An upset occurred when the freshman came in first, with juniors in second, sophomores in third and seniors last.
Next, teams from each grade then participated in a relay race. Despite the seniors coming in first, their team lost two points after they switched
their scooter with another team.
Afterward, students participated in Darth Vader; the seniors came in first, then the juniors in second, the sophomores in third, and freshmen in fourth.
The final event was Tug of War. The seniors first went up against the sophomores, beating them and moving on to go up against the juniors, who previously defeated the freshmen.
The juniors next beat the seniors and went on to go up against the teachers and lost. The teachers next challenged the seniors to a final round; however, the seniors defeated the teachers.
Overall, The freshmen came in fourth, the sophomores in third, and winning by only two points over the juniors were the Seniors!
In the end, Color Wars brings our school community together and gives students the opportunity to show school spirit.
