Bienvenue à IHS Ms. Steuer

The high school welcomes Ms. Devon Steuer, the new French teacher for sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

Prior to coming to Irvington,Steuer worked at the Ossining Middle School as a French teacher for one year. While working in Ossining school district, Steuer was told that Irvington was a great place to work which was able to provide students with a lot of resources. Steuer had a lot of interest in the environment that Irvington had to offer.

Steuer began studying French in middle school and continued throughout college and even took time to study abroad in France.

“I didn’t want to lose my ability to speak the language because it happens very quickly when you stop studying it,” Steuer explained.

Steuer decided to become a French teacher because she enjoys the language and also excels in public speaking.

“I hope that I can build a relationship with the students where they appreciate the work I do because I am a young teacher. I hope to build that rapport with them so they trust their education to be in my hands. And also to establish myself as someone who is part of the team,” Steuer said.

Steuer was happily surprised when she first arrived to Irvington to find the staff extremely welcoming, knowledgeable, and very willing to share advice and materials.

“I want to be that kind of person in case someone new comes in and they need someone to look after them. I have worked in places where people are unhappy to go to work and that’s not what I see here,” Steuer said.

Along side the staff, Steuer was also very pleased by the students and how accepting they were of a new teacher.

“The students seem to really care about their education, they really value it. I think students here understand the impact of school and how it affects their life down the line,” Steuer said.

Steuer has been a great addition to the Irvington community and has made lasting impression on her students.

Sophomore, Jess Logozio said, “She is really funny and a great teacher. She is better than any other French teacher I’ve had. She teaches us a lot and helps me when I struggle.”
