Update on the Bubble on the Track

By Cavan Reilly

As the spring track season approaches, one question has been lingering in the minds of the athletes, coaches, and fans alike: will the bubble on the track be fixed in time for the season?

Senior Alexandra Lyashenko states, “I’m so sad that the track is damaged. Until it’s fixed we are unable to host any meets, which are my favorite part of the season. I hope the fixes can be done soon.”

After much anticipation, the bump will be addressed hopefully in time to schedule a home meet at Irvington High School. However, the timing of the fix depends on the weather. In order for the track to be resolved, the ground must soften enough for the section of the track to be replaced.

This repair is particularly important for track athletes who rely on a smooth, consistent track for training and competition. The bump, if not fixed in time, would prevent Irvington High School from hosting any home meets such as Leagues and Doc Rasbeck Relays. Fortunately, if worst comes to worst and the track isn’t ready, coaches from Sleepy Hollow have offered to host Doc Rasbeck Relays so the meet wouldn’t be canceled altogether. Leagues, however, are still up in the air.

“I am excited but still worried because this is a giant project more so than the fire on the track a couple years ago but I am still hopeful that we will be able to host the relays and the league meet later in the season,” said Coach Barry, the boys track and field coach.

Although the time frame on this project is still unknown, important steps are being taken in the right direction to get this problem resolved. Look out for more information about this issue and get excited for the upcoming spring season!
