The Varsity Bowling Team ranked fourth at Sectionals on Wednesday, February 14th, following a successful season, earning League Champion status.
Impressive performances for the Bulldogs at Sectionals included Nate Moshan bowling a series total of 982 with an average of 139. He finished 48th in the entire event.
Eviatar Frechter also impressed, bowling a series total 870 with his highest average of the season of 147 and finished 54th.
Those two players have been performing well all season, with Head Coach James Madison saying, “I’m most proud of these two student athletes, Nathan Moshen and Evi Frechter. Evi came out as a Senior and did really well. Nathan with his leadership and relaxed in-game poise as a Freshman was amazing.”
This team has a lot of fun but is filled with competitive spirit. Senior Captain Jake Epple said, “I joined bowling last year to fill my afternoons and have a good time, but quickly saw how competitive the kids are, and to be able to be on a team that wants to win and come through on that promise is really special”.
The team has evolved from a fun after school activity into one of the best varsity teams that we have at Irvington High School. Epple added, “The best part of the season was watching the team grow and get better which led to our success.”
The Bulldogs went 15-1 this season, a dominant record for a devoted team.
Despite the seniors who won’t be on the team next season, Coach Madison isn’t worried about the success of the program.
He said, “Our future looks bright with two freshman bowlers returning for next year Nate Moshan and Alec Richman who will be the foundation to build off of. We will have a few other fine returners Junior Drew Krzemienski, John Victor, Will R, John F from the Vip program who all bowled really well and were a major part of our league championship.”
It was a great season for this team, and they look to repeat their success and go even further next year.
