A group of Irvington Students displayed their artwork at the Martucci gallery and program room at Irvington Public Library. The virtual and in person show was put together by Irvington art teacher Ms. Schmertz and high school seniors Aviv Markus and Kati Sollecito.
The gallery displayed many types of art in all different mediums. Students created artwork in class and then had the opportunity to share their work with the community.
All three of the artists — Gloria Song, Sarah Hymowitz, and Linnea Barrachin — shared details about the pieces they created.
Song did a watercolor painting of her backyard. It consisted of blue, white and black colors. The reason she created it was because she wanted to try something new.
“It was something that would challenge myself because I don’t usually do watercolor,” Song said. After she finished painting her artwork, she discovered that she was pretty good at it.
Hymowitz created a self portrait using oil paint. She created it because of an assignment she had in her art class and oil paint is one of her favorite mediums.
Barrachin created a red/auburn watercolor painting of a pig. When asked how she decided on what to paint, she explained that she knew she wanted to do something in the realm of animals from the get-go. When narrowing down exactly what she wanted to create, Barrachin searched through her camera roll and came across a photo of a newborn pig she had taken previously at her grandmother’s farm. She then decided to paint this photo, and executed it very well.
