Today, March 10th, Irvington felt a few-second-long earthquake around 10:30 am.
The earthquake was reported to have a magnitude of 2.3 and be centered near Sleepy Hollow. It was felt in many other towns around Irvington and in Westchester, and even in as far as some towns in Putnam County.
In Irvington, the earthquake felt so small that some people weren’t even sure what had happened. While some believed there was an earthquake, others only felt as if something had fallen down in a nearby room. However, in accordance with Irvington’s priority of safety, in response to the event that had taken place, IHS implemented a hold-in-place shortly after the earthquake happened. Once the safety of all students and staff and the wellbeing of the buildings were confirmed, after about 15 minutes, the hold-in-place was lifted. As per usual, students and families were sent an email sharing the reason for the hold-in-place. The minor earthquake did not cause any notable harm.
