On February 27, 2026, Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery reached an agreement that would send the rights of Warner Bros to Paramount for a staggering $111 billion.
This move comes after a bidding war that had intensified over the past few months. Since late 2025 up until February of 2026, Netflix and Paramount had been battling to acquire the rights to Warner Bros. Discovery.
Originally, in December 2025, it looked like Netflix was going to secure the deal with Warner Bros as an agreement was made on $82.7 billion between the two companies. However, Warner Bros went in the other direction towards Paramount once Paramount gave them an offer they could not refuse, and was also too big for Netflix to make a counteroffer.
This move also included a Paramount+ and HBO Max merger. Now, both streaming services will combine into one app allowing access to both streaming services for people who only had one of them.
On top of all of the streaming services and stations that Paramount already had prior to the acquisition, Paramount now also gains full control of CNN and TNT, and all of its daughter companies.
“I think this move now allows Paramount to compete with the Netflix’s and Youtube’s of the world,” said junior AJ Sloyer.
This move will definitely help Paramount now compete with these bigger companies. For the last few years, the most popular streaming companies included the likes of Netflix, Youtube, and Disney. Now, Paramount can eventually join those three companies as one of the premier streaming companies.
“I think Paramount will benefit a lot from this move despite spending a lot of money for it,” said junior Brand Reich.
This move will really increase Paramount’s popularity. Paramount will now have rights to many more popular shows and have more access to sports. Sports are the most popular source of entertainment in the world, and Paramount will now have control of popular events like March Madness.
Ultimately, this move allows Paramount the opportunity to become one of the most popular streaming companies in the world. Paramount is taking a big risk with this gargantuan offer, but if it works out, it could really put them ahead of the game.
