JCC VS NYSC

by Jarrett Ourman

Many people in Irvington and Tarrytown frequently go to the gym. However, this brings the question: Which gym is better, the JCC or NYSC? To compare the gym memberships, I looked at several different factors including, price, equipment, people, and more.

Between the two gyms, the JCC is the smaller, but more local, gym. In comparison, the NYSC has more equipment, but it is about 15 minutes away from the Irvington/Tarrytown area. The JCC also has a basketball court, while NYSC does not have that useful facility. However, both of these gyms have locker rooms, a key feature in any gym. Both gym memberships are listed at similar prices, with each costing 45$ per month.

After working out, many people want to eat healthy foods and maximize their lifts. One benefit that NYSC has is the food in the surrounding area. While the JCC is not extremely far from any restaurants or stores, NYSC is in the same complex with healthy and reliable options like Chopt, Chipotle, Smoothie King, GNC, and Starbucks.

Sophomore Ross Cestaro, who goes to the JCC, said, “It’s a very quick and easy drive. I manage to get good workouts, and I’m able to play basketball afterwards. Also, it’s a good community, and everyone knows each other.”

However, Junior Joseph Denardo, who works out at NYSC, said, “The gym space and equipment are much better and worth the drive.”

If you are interested in more equipment, a bigger gym, and good food options, NYSC is perfect for you. On the other hand, if you prefer a shorter drive, and added benefits like a basketball and pickleball court, the JCC is a good fit.
