The Rivertown Legends serve as the combined hockey team for Irvington, Ossining, Sleepy Hollow, Dobbs Ferry, and Ardsley. They are having an outstanding season with an 11-4 record as a D1 team. They have a goal differential of 39, including 87 goals scored.
The season started rocky, as the team lost its first two games to Pelham and Mamaroneck. They recovered quickly, winning their next two against Rye and Mt. Pleasant. However, a loss in the fifth game of the season put the team at 2-3. After the first five, the Rivertown Legends went on a flawless nine game winning streak, winning by at least two in all of their games.
Senior Aidan Balkin is a key member of the Legends team.
When asked about his thoughts on the season, Aidan said, “It’s very supportive, we’re all very close. After a bad shift or a bad game, we pick each other up. We’ve played amazing and we’re continuing to get better every day.”
When asked about the playoffs, Aidan said, “I think they’re going to go great, we have to stick to how we’re playing, and that’s where we’ll have success.”
Last season, the Rivertown Legends went undefeated, and this year, they are trying to replicate that past success.
Their last two games of the season are against Pelham and Suffern, two key games that could determine their opponents and seeding in playoffs. Suffern is currently only half a game up on them, so a win against them would move them up in the standings. Pelham is ahead by one game.
Hopefully, the Legends can continue their strong season.
