This September, the Irvington Union-Free School District hosted their annual pep rally to stir up excitement amongst the student body for homecoming week. Varsity captains each gave speeches to introduce their teams, themes, and the dates of their games.
Varsity Girls Soccer captain Madeleine Okun, grade 12, announced the USA theme for this year’s soccer game, and hyped up the crowd. She later voiced, “The pep rally is such an amazing opportunity to connect with the school.”
The Homecoming Court was also revealed at the pep rally. The students in the Court were nominated by our teachers, being recognized for their positive attitudes and important contributions to our IHS community. The Paw Print’s very own Managing Editor, Ruby Fieser, as well as senior Oscar Peres were elected as the Homecoming Royals.
Mr. Williams was selected by the Junior class for the staff spotlight not only because of his engaging and insightful AP Lang class, but also because of his crucial involvement in both the Paw Print and the Track team. The other teachers highlighted were Ms. Almeida by the seniors, Ms. Geelan by the sophomores, and Mr. Groven by the freshman.
Afterwards, varsity captains, the band, and the flag team travelled to MSS to stir up excitement in the younger students. Thomas Besidski, grade 5, expressed his excitement, saying, “The flag team was so fun to watch.”
The IHS Band played an array of songs, including Dance the Night by Dua Lipa, Houdini by Dua Lipa, and Country Roads by John Denver, along with the iconic Go Big Green. Principal Hirsch ran around the gymnasium challenging each grade to sing the chant louder than the last.
