Food Delivery Ban

By Zachary Krady

Starting this fall, Irvington administration has created a new policy stating that incoming freshmen are no longer allowed to get food deliveries throughout the school day. However, students from grades 10-12 will still be allowed to order food as long as it is scheduled before the school day.

This change is along with the recently implemented New York State phone ban, which prohibits all students from using their phones during school hours. Since students are no longer able to deliver food using their phone during the school day, administration has made the decision to begin to ban the food deliveries altogether, starting with the freshmen.

Students have since expressed various opinions regarding the new policy, particularly the freshmen who are affected as they are unable to get deliveries. Some have been supporting the ban, but most have been against it.

Sean Mairs, a sophomore at Irvington High School, says, “I think that it’s unfair because high school is supposed to give students more freedoms and the new policy is taking that away from them.” This is a very valid point and reflects what a lot of us students may be thinking.

Before the ban, students commonly used popular delivery apps such as DoorDash and Uber Eats during lunch time to fulfill their cravings. This caused a lot of confusion within the front desk and this ban has been implemented to take pressure off as well as to reduce phone use as much as possible.

Many others have criticized this policy, including Connor Gredick, a freshman at Irvington High School. “I was really looking forward to being able to order food from my favorite places during school after not being allowed to in middle school, but now I can’t because of this new rule. I think that it should be changed,” he says.

This new ban marks a change in Irvington High School, as students are more encouraged to utilize their options in the cafeteria or to pack their own lunch instead.
