Famous rapper and artist, Lil Nas X, legal name “Montero Lamar Hill” was arrested in Los Angeles, California on August 21. According to NBC News, he was charged with three counts of battery against a police officer and one count of resisting arrest.
Famous for his song “Old Town Road”, Hill quickly rose to fame in 2019, but was recently seen wandering the streets of Los Angeles in nothing but underwear and cowboy boots. At some point, he was even reported in only boots.
While wandering the streets, Hill came up to civilians and talked about wanting them to come to a “function,” but when asked the location, he simply replied with “you know where it’s at.”
When police arrived at the scene, Hill punched a police officer in the face twice. Later, he was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Police are still unsure whether Hill was under mental distress or under the influence of drugs. However, there is no evidence to support that any drugs were used.
Despite the suspicions, Hill was released on a $75,000 bail on August 25th. The conditions of his bail stated that he must attend four Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week and terminate his usage and possession of illegal drugs.
Taking to social media, Hill made a short video saying, “your girl is gonna be okay”. Hill’s father, Robert Stafford, later spoke on the situation, saying “He’s going to get the help he needs, and just keep him in your prayers.” Stafford claims that the pressure of fame drove Hill to his outburst.
Hill’s father isn’t the only one with thoughts like this. When asked about the situation, Addyson Spino, a local Sophomore at IHS said “I think that it makes sense that [Hill’s arrest] happened. I think rising to fame like that can make anyone prone to abusing drugs. Putting people in the spotlight like that can for sure affect anyone. There’s a lot of pressure on the artist to do well.”
Hill’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 15, 2025, where the judge will determine if there is enough evidence that he committed a crime, and therefore continue with the case.
