Irvington High School has had a buzzing week with energy from the art show radiating across campus. Each year, Irvington students across different art classes showcase their incredible talents in the art show exhibit in the campus gym. Led by Ms. Schmertz, various pieces ranging from paintings, drawings, sculptures and more are displayed in the show.
Students can spend months working on some projects, and the art show is a massive marker of accomplishment for all of their hard work this school year. Artists also have the opportunity to create their own exhibit in the gym where they can organize all of their work in a way that speaks to them, and hopefully will connect on a deeper level with their audience.
Junior Rem Wise was just one impressor with his station that featured a walk-in exhibit containing all of his work. Visitors were invited into Wise’s mind and artistic process that drove his portfolio for this year’s projects. His unique and extremely creative presentation– complete with a walk-in tent and projectors — was emblematic of the dedication IHS artists put into their work.
Some AP Art students like Ella Weiss expressed a lot of pride for the completion of their AP portfolios. “It feels great to finally be able to see what all of my artwork looks together in my panel,” Weiss said.
Ella used oil paint and collage to represent the reciprocal relationship between humans and the world, which is the focus of her AP portfolio.
The art show will occupy the campus gym starting this Thursday, May 1st at 6:30 PM. Hopefully everyone has a chance to stop by at some point to check out some of the impressive work done by their peers here at IHS.
