The MLB is off to a shocking start and there are huge shocks all around the league. Let’s go take a look through each division and how the teams are doing.
One of the most surprising stories is the Orioles. They won 90 games last season and were atop the division for many weeks, yet they are off to a rough start and currently last in the division. Atop the division, the Yankees are having ups and downs, but are definitely crushing it, with them hitting the most home runs in a game in franchise history and bringing in all sorts of attention with their torpedo bats and tiramisu. The rest of the division is around 500, but the Rays have a lot of hope with top prospect Chandler Simpson off to a really productive start to his career.
The American league central is currently exactly the same as last year. The Tigers are dominating with star southpaw Tarik Skubal being electric on the mound, and the white sox being the worst team in the conference. It is certainly a division that is up for grabs well see how it turns out.
The American League West is arguably the most winnable division in baseball, with just a 4 game difference between first and last place. The big surprise is the Mariners, coming off of a disappointing season they are having a major bounceback lead by star Center Fielder Julio Rodriguez. The Rangers had the worst loss of the season with a walkoff inside-the-infield home run with three errors. Yikes.
Now onto the national league with the most confusing division in baseball. The Braves who were expected to win the division started out on a 7 game losing streak and have been forced to slowly claw back at the lead. The Mets are the best team in the league without a dominating Soto. They have the best ERA in the league and swept the division rivals Phillies. The Phillies are looking shell shocked from the NLDS loss last year and need to make some trades to pick up the pace.
The National League Central is another incredibly winnable division. The Cubs shocked the baseball world this offseason with the trade for Kyle Tucker and are currently just barely holding a 2 game lead over second place, and in a division with plenty of young talent especially Elly De La Cruz(Reds) and Jackson Chorio(Brewers) the division is up for grabs. A big shocker is the Pirates, despite having Star pitcher Paul Skenes they have been unable to really pick up some wins.
Lastly, the best division in baseball is by far the National League East. Currently the Giants are the second best team in baseball, which is really shocking considering their big free agent Willy Adames has been very cold, but they’ve been propelled by star outfielder Jung Hoo Lee. Under them are the reigning champions, the Dodgers, who had a very good offseason and will definitely be a huge threat throughout the season. But what’s most shocking about the division is the Rockies. They are by far the worst team in baseball at just four wins, and they are on pace for just 20 wins, the worst ever.
With over 120 games left we just have to see how these teams play out.
