This year the 67th Annual Grammy Awards Ceremony was held on February 2, 2025. The Ceremony awarded many great artists for their music including Beyoncé who won 3 awards. Beyonce’s latest album “Cowboy Carter” has been a hit and led her to win the “Best Country Album” and “Album Of The Year” at the ceremony.
The album “Cowboy Carter” is considered country music, which is a new genre Beyoncé has taken on. Her music style has typically been in rap and hip hop but this album blends blues, folk, R&B with traditional country, creating a unique style of music.
Beyoncé seemed extremely shocked to have won the award for “Best Country Album”. In her acceptance speech she says that she was surprised and proceeds to express gratitude to all the artists in the country industry for accepting her and her creation of the album.
The album “Cowboy Carter” features many iconic country artists such as Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson, as well as Miley Cyrus. Having such big beloved country artists as part of the project really brought together the album.
Although many fans loved the new album, her victory sparked controversy on whether or not the album should have won “Best Country Album”. Traditional country fans expressed their disapproval of her win because her album wasn’t “real” country.
All over social media on platforms such as TikTok, videos have been surfacing of listersers saying they didn’t like the album in general or that her modernized take on country shouldn’t have won over traditional country artists.
Beyoncé stated in her speech that “Music has no borders, no walls, and no limits”
The album was meant to expand the walls of country. She highlighted the endless possibilities of what music can be in a genre. Despite the controversy Beyoncé’s album “Cowboy Carter” was a successful project pushing the boundaries of just traditional country music.
