Mr. Williams: English Teacher, Track Coach, Paw Print Overseer, & Teacher of the Week!

By Leila Schneider

On the final week before break, our very own Mr. Williams deservedly earned the title of Teacher of the Week. Not only is he an English teacher, he’s also a coach and the head of our school’s newspaper. Mr. Williams does so much for our school and is very clearly committed to his roles in the IHS community. His care for what he does is apparent every single day.

In the Paw Print, he ensures every class that students are learning necessary journalism skills and getting work done. He makes being a part of the Paw Print such a special experience, as students get to understand what it’s like to be part of a real Newsroom. He runs the class in a way that allows all of the many students who take it to have a voice and contribute ideas. He teaches students the foundation for writing news stories, and then gives them creative freedom to write about topics they are interested in. He encourages students to communicate with their respective editors and choose their own articles, teaching independence to students all the way from 9th to 12th grade.

Cecilia Kadro, a sophomore who just joined the Paw Print this year, said “Newspaper is a great new experience for me. Mr. Williams has taught me how to write articles that I’m really proud of.”

Along with being a great Paw Print advisor, Mr. Williams is a dedicated coach. Even after a long day at school, Mr. Williams shows up to Track practice every single day enthusiastically to start his coaching part of the day.

Junior Jelena Herceg who participates in Spring Track with Mr. Williams said, “whenever I’m running I always hear him cheering from the field. It always gives me a boost of motivation to run faster.”

Clearly Mr. Williams is loved amongst the Irvington community for his welcoming personality and dedication in all that he does. Congratulations to him on this achievement!
