Girls lacrosse is getting a headstart on their season, as per usual, through their winter lacrosse league at House of Sports. Coaches Patrick DiBenedetto and Randy Meyers value preparedness, and strive to ensure their players are ready in terms of fitness and skill for a demanding season.
The team practices twice a week to prepare for a short, but very quickly paced 50 minute game at the House of Sports’ indoor turf field. The games are so fast-paced because there are no out-of-bounds; the fields are surrounded by walls that allow for continuous play. However, the games do have a referee to mediate play. The team plays winter-league teams from other schools, some of which they will be playing during the actual season. This way, the teams are already exposed to the abilities of opposing teams before the season even begins.
Junior team member Federica Ricciadella says, “I think it’s beneficial for the team because it gets our fitness and stick skills up-to-par before the actual season starts. This way, when preseason comes, we’ll already be warmed up for a tough week.” Junior Lena Svigals adds, “it’s a good way to get to know your team better before the season and grow as a player to prepare for the actual season.”
This system is clearly helpful to and enjoyed by the team. They appreciate the opportunity to warm up their stick skills and get in shape before the season, with low stress and more fun. Surely their hard work in preparing for the season will pay off this spring and they will enjoy a successful season.
