This year, Irvington says goodbye to its long time car parade tradition as we welcome the talented Irvington High School marching band in a new fun performance. The marching band is set to perform around the track at Meszaros Field preceding the football homecoming game. The decision to part ways with the car parade came only after a series of discussions amongst the members of our Student Council.
Junior class president Jayin Sawney explained, “It was a difficult decision to take a new path with the homecoming parade, but we know the marching band will do its job to hype up the crowd and bring the Irvington spirit.”
Recent years have proven the difficulty in executing the car parade, mainly due to weather issues and safety concerns. Irvington has had to cancel the car parade for the past couple of years due to inclement weather, and our student council believes that a pregame show from the talented musicians of the Irvington marching band will be a successful alternative. The band is sure to entertain the homecoming crowd, which we hope to be bigger than ever this year.
When asked about her experience playing in the band, flute player Lena Svigals stated, “it’s great to show school spirit and I’m excited to support the team at homecoming”.
This year’s show will act as a great community building experience for Irvington, as more people can take part in the festivities compared to the former car parade. Irvington strives on its tight knit community and the marching band will surely help to bring together the citizens of the town to support our football team at their big game.
