Duck, Duck, Goosefeather!

by Cecilia Kadro

Goosefeather is a Cantonese style, Michelin rated restaurant in Irvington. Dale Talde opened the restaurant in 2019 in the Tarrytown estate, just a five minute drive from Irvington High School. Some highlights of the menu include the potstickers, salmon tartare and black pepper beef.

When you think of Cantonese food, you often think of noodles and rice. Goosefeather takes its asian roots and expands the menu with seafood, various meats, and delicious sauces and seasonings.

The salmon tartare was an excellent starter, with its crispy rice and pickled lotus fruit, it definitely made my meal start with a bang. Subsequently, the beef potstickers had a bold meaty flavor and paired with its spicy mustard, it quickly became my favorite dish. After that, the welcoming staff brought over their special, a duck bao. This dish wasn’t my favorite because it was too sweet for my taste. Goosefeather is very well known for their bao buns, their crispy shrimp bao and spicy chicken bao being a fan favorite.

The summer corn with the brown butter labneh caught my eye because it seemed unfamiliar, yet interesting. The sweet corn tasted delicious with the tangy labneh, which made the dish part of my top three.

When asked what the most ordered entree was, the server responded with the black pepper beef, so that’s what we ordered. It was beautiful. The black pepper sauce went perfectly with the tender beef. This dish had heat and warmed my mouth wonderfully. The sauce smelled amazing and tasted even better. The seared tuna was served cold with tarte fresh gooseberries. It had a good flavor but I prefer my fish warm.

Lastly we got crab rice with jalapenos. While spicy, it provided a brilliant taste.

Overall, Goosefeather blew me away with its bold flavors and great dishes. I would recommend this spot to everyone in our community that is looking for unique food and a cozy restaurant.
