After a rough last season, the Irvington Football Team won their first game against the Edgemont Panthers. During the first quarter of the game, the Irvington Bulldogs and the Edgemont Panthers were battling it out until Irvington scored the first touchdown. The first touchdown got Irvington going, and it motivated them to try to win. Coach Myers was enthusiastic throughout the whole game, pushing his team to the limits to try to win. Throughout game week, coach Myers was pushing everyone to their limits making them the best conditioned team, and it showed during the game. Throughout the game the hard practices ended up paying off.
During the second half of the game, the Panthers were tired and the Bulldogs were able to keep pushing through. This allowed the bulldogs to run the ball to Jaden Jarrett, and he ended up having an amazing game with over 100 rushing yards. He received player of the week honors by Lohud. Sophomore Adriel Martinez started against the Edgemont Panthers and helped the team to victory. “It felt amazing and I’m glad we finally got one but the jobs are not finished so we’re going to work harder so we can get more wins,” Adriel stated following the game. Adriel made numerous plays on defense and stopped multiple passing touchdowns.
On the bus ride home, the team was so proud and couldn’t wait until the next game. The best part of the game was dumping the water onto Coach Myers. Some might think that this would lead to a coach getting upset, but on the contrary it made it all part of the amazing first game experience. Everyone on and off the field was able to be a part of this night.
