On October 28, Matthew Perry, better known as Chandler from “Friends,” was found dead in his Los Angeles home at the age of 54. Matthew was supposedly found unresponsive in his jacuzzi. Even though it looks like he drowned, medical personnel are still awaiting the findings of the autopsy to confirm his death.
Some contend that he overdosed in the jacuzzi, drowning afterward, because he has battled drugs and addiction all of his life. He was quite open about his difficulties, revealing in one interview that he went to rehabilitation fifteen times and spent more than $7 million on his journey to sobriety. In addition, he noted how he disliked watching “Friends” episodes since he could always tell when he was having trouble with his drug and alcohol abuse.
Prior to his passing, he expressed his desire to be remembered as an advocate who supported others struggling with addiction rather than as a “Friends” character. The National Philanthropic Trust (NPT) established the Matthew Perry Foundation on November 5th in response to his passing. Since its founding, the NPT, a public charity, has raised more than $49 billion. In this instance, they established the Matthew Perry Foundation in order to carry out his goal of aiding those who suffer from addiction.
Overall many people have been devastated from the passing of Matthew Perry especially the cast of “Friends” but his message is still being carried out by many people and organizations today.
