When the long anticipated, new black/green and white football jerseys finally came in, most of the players on the football team felt disappointed. The white jerseys have black numbers in the center of the jerseys that are outlined in green, with a green “Irvington” right on top.
Senior Cornerback and Wide Receiver Anthony Mercado expressed his complaints about the new jerseys, saying, “I think they are really bad because you can see everything since it’s see through and it looks like a lacrosse jersey. Especially with red pads, you can see through them. The white jerseys are worse because it’s probably more see through with red pads. It only looks fine if you are wearing a solid black shirt and you are standing 10 feet away.”
The See-through designs seem to be a popular complaint from the players. Senior Running Back and Linebacker Steven Rittmeyer believes that “they could have done better” and he is “quite disappointed with the see through design”.
Senior Nose guard, Defensive Tackle, and Tackle Will Vanderwal has a more positive attitude towards the jerseys. He explained that he “like[s] the color palette, but [he doesn’t] like that it is transparent.”
Personally, I´m also not a big fan of the new jerseys, but I think that the black ones are better than the white ones. We also got new black pants which I think look nice. After playing a game and looking at some pictures, they didn’t look as bad as I thought. Over time, I feel like we can get used to the jerseys; however, I don’t think we´ll be satisfied with them. Honestly, I prefer the old jerseys but unfortunately, it looks like there’s nothing we can do about it.
