With Halloween right around the corner, a bracket was made with 16 of the “best” candies. The First Annual Halloween Candy Cup consisted of chocolate-based candies on one side of the bracket, and sweet candies on the other.
The chocolate candies in the tournament are Snickers, Twix, Hersheys, Kit Kat, Milk Way, Reece’s Pieces, M&Ms, and Nestle Crunch and the sweet candies being Skittles, Airheads, Starburst, Sourpatch, Twizzlers, Nerds, Laffy Taffy, and Jolly Ranchers.
For the first round, matchups were posted on the PawPrint Instagram, as polls, with the candies with a higher vote percentage securing their respective spots in the quarterfinals. Each day, a new poll was posted, with around 100 students, parents and faculty members voting for each matchup.
This competition went on for roughly a week, and students in the Paw Print and around the high school passionately supported their beloved candies throughout.
For the semifinal on the chocolate side, Twix faced off against M&Ms, rolling over them with 72% of votes to 28%. On the sweet candies side, the Semifinal consisted of Sour Patch vs. Jolly Ranchers. Sour Patch came out firing, posting a 79% to 21% victory. These results sent Twix and Sour Patch through to the world-renowned 2023 Halloween Candy Cup Final.
The stage was set. On Wednesday, October 25th the poll went live, and the candies brawled it out for 24 hours straight. After it was all said and done, Sour Patch came out victorious, winning in a nailbiter, 52% to 48%.
Sour Patch was named the Halloween Candy Cup Champion on Friday, October 27th, four days prior to the big night.
