The Varsity Boys Soccer team season had been successfully maintaining a smooth win ratio, but just as they carried their rhythm into October, that momentum slowed and their gameplay became more rocky and uncertain.
The first match of October was against Croton on Monday, October 2nd. Here, the game ended in the team’s first tie 1-1. Brandon Dhanoolal scored for the team with an assist from Johnny Guerrero. The following day, Irvington played against Bronxville. Jonah Goldberg made two assists and Brandon scored 2 goals, ending the game in a tie of 2-2.
On October 7, they won against Obama School for Social Justice in a 3-0 victory. On October 10, they had another tie 2-2 against Dobbs Ferry followed by a 2-1 loss on the 12th after playing Albertus magnus. Then on October 13, they played at the Briarcliff homecoming, which ended in a tie since neither team was able to make a single goal. Finally on October 14, the team lost their last match against Yonkers Montessori 3-0.
The season has ended, but the first match of sectionals draws near and the team is aiming to make a solid comeback.
“As we go into the postseason, we hope to mirror how we started the season,” says senior, Jason Ahn. “I think in the beginning, we were really focused on playing as a team and playing for each other.”
With dedicated work and effort, the team will hopefully gain back that rhythm they had in the beginning and take home some victories for Irvington.
