Twenty-year-old singer and actress, Olivia Rodrigo releases her highly awaited new album “Guts” on September 8th, 2023, as the sophomore album to her Grammy-winning debut album, “Sour”.
Two songs were released this summer for listeners to get a preview of the album, which made it to the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The first, “vampire” her regret from a relationship with a manipulative older man. The second released song “bad idea right?” is an upbeat song about meeting up with her ex-boyfriend.
Although “Guts” seems larger and contains more ballad types of songs than her first album “Sour”, it fits perfectly with her type of writing and her discography. The twelve songs seem to have more angst and anger written into them than her previous eleven songs on “Sour”.
Throughout her album, she mentions the anxieties of love and generally just being a teenage girl in the world today, which she had also written her first album “Sour” about, but executes in a different way. The Wednesday after her new album “Guts” was released, she announced her second-ever tour “Guts World Tour” to begin in February 2024.
Olivia Rodrigo went on tour for her previous album “Sour” however she played at smaller venues than she will be playing at for her “Guts” world tour. According to Billboard Music’s poll, the song “get him back” is currently the most trending song on her new album.
“This album encapsulates growing up and figuring yourself out in the world, and the awkwardness of that,” says Olivia Rodrigo in her interview with The Rolling Stone. Olivia Rodrigo was 18 years old when her debut album “Sour” was released, and is now 2 years old for the release of her second.
