On September 1, Irvington Varsity Girl’s Field Hockey won their first game against the Harrison Huskies.
At 10 am on Saturday, at Harrison High School, the Bulldogs battled for their 1-0 win. The solo goal was scored by senior captain Emmaline LeBuhn, on an offensive corner.
“I think it was a solid first game,” says Senior Kate McLaughlin. “We definitely have a lot of work to do, but it was great seeing the team really come together for the first time.”
The game was sponsored by Able Athletics, and both teams enjoyed playing for the cause. Able Athletics works to provide opportunities for athletes with special needs and disabilities.
On Thursday, September 14 the girls traveled to Putnam Valley to play their second game of the season. After a tough fight, the Bulldogs dropped 1-0 to the Blue Tigers. The lone goal of the game was scored with five minutes left in the fourth quarter.
During this game, an impressive milestone was hit by senior goalie, Samantha Quinio. Quinio made her 100th save of her career in Putnam Valley.
“Putnam Valley gave us a good fight all the way to the end. Regardless of the score, I am so happy with how we played as a team. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season and feeling very optimistic.” said senior Anders Knapp.
So far this season, the girls have only played two games. Three other scheduled games have been called off due to bad weather.
