After two years without Color Wars due to COVID, it finally came back and was better than ever, especially for the seniors, who will finish their high school careers as 2023 Color Wars champions.
During the week leading up to the big day of events, everyone dressed up each day according to the theme: Groutfit day, Disney Day, Anything but a Backpack Day, and Dishonest Day.
Seniors took first for spirit week, freshmen came in second, juniors in third, and sophomores in fourth. On the score sheet, the point system was five points for first place, three points for second place, two points for third place, and one point for fourth place. Throughout the week, each grade decorated the rock on different nights to rack up their points based on participation and decoration. The sophomores claimed first place for rock decoration, while the seniors placed first for their rock group photo. Each grade decorated their designated hallway on Thursday night in order to earn more points. Seniors were first for hallway participation, while the sophomores won first for hallway decoration.
Finally, on Friday, February 10th, each grade came dressed in attire according to their theme for the big day. Freshmen were yellow, with their theme being “The Rise of Freshmen.” Sophomores were blue and their theme was “Sophomores Under The Sea.” Juniors were red with a “Red Carpet” theme, and finally seniors went all out in green, with their “Senior Swamp” theme.
The day started off with a musical performance in Maher Gym. The sophomores took first with their rendition of “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid. Juniors came in second with an incredible performance of “Chopin’s Waltz in E Minor” by Maxwell Ma on the piano. Seniors came in third
with their lip-syncing and dancing to “What Makes You Beautiful,” featuring Principal Hirsch. In fourth place were the Freshmen, with Zachary Milun playing “I Want It That Way” on the saxophone.
Following the performances, were the volleyball games. The seniors first defeated the freshmen in an intense match with a score of 20-15. The juniors then played against the sophomores ending in 20-14. Lastly, the freshmen played the sophomores, and the freshmen won 15-13.
After volleyball, the four grades played Pictionary, resulting in the seniors and sophomores tying for first place. The grades then battled it out in Mario Kart, Name That Tune, and Guess Who in the campus theater.
Freshmen and juniors tied for first in Mario Kart, seniors took first in Name That Tune, and sophomores got first for Guess Who. After the fun games in the theater, everyone then enjoyed their lunch while watching an intense chess tournament, broadcast live from the CPR room. Sophomores scored first place for the chess match. After lunch, everyone went back to the Maher gym for each grade’s chant, knockout, volleyball championship, table surfing, Darth Vader, pickleball, relay race, and tug of war. The seniors took first for the chant, Darth Vader, table surfing, and tug of war. The sophomores won knockout, and the juniors won the volleyball championship.
At the very end of the day, Ms. Cutignola announced the winner of Color Wars 2023 — the seniors! The sophomores were second, the juniors third, and the freshmen finished fourth.
