This season, Irvington has welcomed a new field hockey coach, Arielle Rodriguez.
Rodriguez is brand new to the district and works at the high school in many different fields, always offering a helping hand.
Her Field Hockey career started in middle school. She went to school in Nyack across the river and is native to Westchester county. Later, she went on to college, playing both field hockey and lacrosse at St. Thomas Aquinas College, in Orangeburg NY.
In 2017 her first year in college, she was recruited for the National Puerto Rico Field Hockey Team traveling all around the world to places like Jamaica and Mexico.
Coaching has always come easy and although it’s her first year at the varsity level, she has been coaching for about 4 years. Rodriguez has experience coaching at Tappan Zee Youth Lacrosse and also with kids at the elementary level. She currently coaches for Team 91 Tri-State, and Rye Academy Field Hockey.
Her passion for coaching began in 10th grade when she was working at Bounce, a trampoline park, saying “I fell in love with it right away”. Her passion for teaching sprung from, “Seeing how the students grow, not just as students, but as human beings.”
Now she works as the head coach for our Field Hockey team. The team is currently playing with a record of 3-1-2. “I got lucky with this group,” she says, hoping to win titles. “Getting them ready and prepared, working for harder titles and success.” Rodriguez says is her main goal this season.
