On Tuesday during the club period, students and staff assembled on the quad in front of a newly erected stage to celebrate the first ever “Music in Our Schools” day. Many were looking forward to seeing some of their favorite classmates and teachers perform.
The concert involved a stunning acapella group of high school girls, mind-blowing solos, and finally a rock performance by The Guilty Pleasures, a band featuring IHS teachers and staff.
In addition to the music, a wide assortment of snacks were available to the audience courtesy of the PTSA. The performance was meant to celebrate the musical talent of Irvington and to experience an opportunity to assemble together for something fun after two years of isolation.
As far as the performers themselves, they were also very happy with how the music festival turned out. “The music festival was fun! And it was a great experience seeing everyone there playing instruments and singing. They definitely have talent!” said Amanda Rose, sophomore, who performed a solo of the song “Lost Boy” as part of the line-up.
“Music in Our Schools” is month-long celebration that began in New York in 1973 and grew to a nationwide celebration in 1985.
