Why Aren’t We Going In Ukraine?

By Wyatt McInerney

Everybody has heard what is going on in Ukraine. Russian president Putin has begun an onslaught on Ukraine for a few different reasons, Ukraine on the verge of joining nato, and some speculate his hopes for restoring the USSR. Questions have existed throughout seemingly every nato country, why aren’t we going in and helping Ukraine? Should we go in to help Ukraine? What are the positives and negatives associated with sending troops to Ukraine?

While going into Ukraine and directly fighting Russia seems like the obvious choice, the fact Russians have nuclear weapons change a lot of the thinking. By analysing the erratic choices of Putin, it is thought that if nato countries began supplying troops, Puting could actually launch Nukes at you and me.

While this is definitely something to consider, it is also vital to remember the dire situation of Ukraine and its civilians in it. While there is no obvious answer to this myriad of questions, something must be done.
