After a long and hard fought season, the boys soccer team was left in disappointment after losing in the finals of sectionals. This came after an impressive 14-0-1 record.
After advancing to sectionals the boys defeated Edgemont 4-1 in the quarterfinals and Briarcliff in the semifinals 3-1, dominating both games.
Unlike in the final, the boys had the home advantage for each of these games. Nevertheless, they fell short in the finals against rival Westlake, 2-1.
On Saturday, October 30 at Lakeland High School, Irvington supporters, parents, and players gathered in the hopes of an afternoon that would end in a victory.
This was the first time the Irvington varsity team reached sectional finals since 1990. However, they were left in disappointment and unable to break the deadlock.
At first, they were shaken, going down early 2-0, but senior Isaiah Boyles clawed a goal back to make it 2-1 at halftime. Ultimately, it was not enough with both sides going scoreless in the second half.
The team enjoyed considerable support from Irvington fans at the game, and will be looking to the underclassmen and current juniors to fill the void and pick up from where they left off next year.
