The cross country season has begun and is off to a good start as expected. There have been four meets so far, including the Somers invitational and Gressler Invitational which are the biggest ones we have participated in so far. The Irvington boys have gone undefeated in these meets and will look to continue this hot streak at the bobcat invitational at Byram Hills High school on Saturday, October 2nd.
The first race of the year was the Somers invitational. The girls came in 4th place while the boys got first. The boy’s team was anchored by Liam Lyons who won the race with a 17:21. This was a nice start to the season but this effort was followed up by the Gressler race this past Saturday.
This race was an interesting one as a lot of runners had tough races. Max Shevrin said the course was tough but is not using that as an excuse. Many runners agreed this was one of the harder courses. Even though this adversity Irvington was able to squeak out 1 point 46-45 victory over pelham and other schools. Liam Lyons, Lucas Turano, and Ryan Carron were our top 3 finishing in with Mitchell Milun, mickey severe, Brice Pierce, and Max Shevrin rounding out the top 7. This was extremely impressive by Brice as he got injured during the race and was still able to push through.
Even though this is just the beginning all of the boys are excited about the season. There is a lot of hype and spirit on this team. The coaches and players all have hopes of a state title and each strong race is a step closer to being achieve that goal. This should be an exciting year for the bulldogs cross country team.
