‘MLB: The Show’ Game Review

By Matt Weidler

On April 20th, San Diego Studio’s baseball video game MLB: The Show 21 was released for Playstation 4 and Playstation 5, as well as the Xbox one and Xbox series X/S. This was the 15th edition of the game which originated in 2006.

This was a big day for the game as its release on Xbox opened it too many new players. As an Xbox user myself, I was ecstatic to finally be able to play the game. It is one of the more popular games and gets the best reviews out of all sports games in most years. This had Xbox users really excited to play it.

It was believed that Sony had been preventing this from releasing on Xbox for years and that they were the ones who finally allowed this; however, this is not true. The MLB wanted to expand the game so they made this call. This obviously make sense as MLB TV ratings are down, so expanding the video game to all platforms will definitely help gain popularity around the game and the sport of baseball.

The game is amazing. The game features many different modes. One mode is called “road to the show.” In this mode you create your own player and play through the minors to try and become a major league player. Another mode is called diamond dynasty where you have your own team and you can get players by completing challenges.

You can also compete with other people online as well as friends with your team. In addition to these modes you also have play now and franchise modes which are staples of all sports video games, allowing you to play against friends and become to GM of an MLB team.
