Just this past weekend, our very own varsity girls volleyball team completed a league-sweep, securing their first league title since 1996.
The team competed in their final league game against Woodlands on Saturday, April 10th, taking every set for a dominant final score of 3-0. In addition to a sharp all around team performance, juniors Danielle Heller and Amanda Gilbert helped facilitate the win, leading the Bulldogs with a combined five aces and 25 digs.
Placing second in the league for the past few seasons, the Bulldogs came into this season with a chip on their shoulders. On top of the shortened season and the inability to have a proper preseason, the Bulldogs were forced to take a one week quarantine due to a case on the team.
Despite all setbacks, they came back better than ever and started this season hot. The road to their first league title in almost 30 years consisted of a perfect 6-0 league record, as the Bulldogs defeated Hastings, Dobbs Ferry, and Woodlands in both respective regular season matchups.
As Sectionals are approaching, the Bulldogs are currently sitting at the fourth seed in the Southern Westchester Small School bracket. With a record of 6-3 and their regular season game on April 15th against Mahopac, they are in great position for a sizable Sectional tournament run.
The past two seasons, the Bulldogs have made it to the semifinals and quarterfinals, respectively, and this year are looking to put yet another title under their belt.
Stay tuned for varsity girls volleyball updates going forward, and of course, go Bulldogs!
