Irvington NHS Inducts 70 New Members

The induction ceremony presentation can be viewed on YouTube.

Irvington’s National Honor Society recently inducted 70 new members via virtual presentation that included speeches from IHS administrators and IHS seniors with NHS leadership roles, as well as photos of the inductees with quotes that described how they fulfill the pillars of NHS.

The induction ceremony typically takes place in the school theater, where the families of the inductees fill the seats, celebrating this impressive accomplishment. This year due to COVID-19 restrictions, a YouTube video was produced to congratulate the 70 inductees.

The National Honor Society is a nationwide club which has had a chapter at Irvington High School for five years. NHS values character, leadership, scholarship, and service. In order to be eligible for the NHS, students must have a grade point average of 3.78 or over, and have performed 30 hours of community service.

National Honor Society adviser Ms. Cassidy summed up the value of the NHS to the students and community during her speech:

“You are looked to as role models from both the other students in our school and the staff. It is important to show those important qualities of compassion, honesty, and kindness”

She added, “I truly enjoy working with the National Honor Society because it is more than a title. We are an organization that really works to make a positive difference.”
