As of September 9, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) released their final decision regarding the New York high school sports this fall. The decision about low-to-moderate risk sports — tennis, soccer, field hockey, and swimming — remains the same. These sports can begin practices on September 29 and will continue their season until December 31 at the latest.
In terms of higher risk fall sports — including volleyball, cheerleading, and football — the plan states that these three sports will be moved to a “second fall season” that starts March 1st and runs through the end of April.
It has also been announced that all fall sports championship tournaments are cancelled; however, as of now, winter and spring playoffs will run as normal. In addition, there may be an overlap between the “fall two” sports season and the regular spring sports season. Information regarding how multi-sport athletes will handle this situation has not yet been announced.
According to our new Athletic Director John Buonamano, the district is still awaiting end dates from the section.
“However, it is my understanding that the Fall Sports II season, i.e. football and volleyball, will have minimal, if any overlap, with the spring season,” said Mr. Buonamano.
Information regarding official start and end dates are planned to be announced shortly.
