Due to these unprecedented times, major events of high school such as prom and graduation have been canceled. However, the student council took it into their hands to create a virtual version of the second annual Irvington Choice Awards (or Irvies) for the Bulldog community to view. Digital nomination forms were sent out on grade-wide Google Classroom pages to vote for the winners.
To begin the virtual Irvies the student council created an introductory video mimicking the “Full House” theme song.
During this Hawaiin themed show, guest appearances were made by Mr. Samuelson and Ms. GM, as well as Mr. Fata with a spot-on Donald Trump impersonation. There was also an array of music and art pieces including rapping, drum performances, singing, and dancing.
Award winners were announced for students in each of the four grades and the staff in the following categories: Sunshine, Hercules, Bulldog, School Mom, School Dad, Future Principal of IHS, Earlybird, Aloha, Rookie of the Year, Game Changer, Triple-A, and Innovation award.
School president Arianna Stassa said, “The virtual Irvies was a great success because it not only showcased Irvington talent but brought the community together.”
In these times of uncertainty and isolation, the virtual Irvies was a great way to enhance the Bulldog spirit and put a smile on the faces of the Irvington community.
