During this unprecedented time, the status of anticipated events, such as prom and graduation, are still up the air. Fortunately, the students can still look forward to the second annual Irvington Choice Awards (or “Irvies”) which will be broadcasted virtually for the entire community to enjoy.
In an email blast sent out by Ms. GM, she notes that the district team is still exploring alternative options for prom, in case it cannot be held as it has been traditionally. Ms. Ippolito created a survey to gather input from seniors about end of the year events, and it was found that a majority of the seniors did not wish for a virtual prom.
In terms of graduation, the district team is still considering numerous ideas of how it may be held given the circumstances. No decision has been made on the matter, but Ms. GM informed the community that she prioritizes the safety of the students, families, and staff.
Luckily, though, the pre-recorded Irvies will be broadcasted in two parts on Thursday May 14th and Thursday May 21st at noon. The event can be accessed from the @LifeofIHS Instagram account or on the students’ grade-wide Google Classroom page.
Student council advisers Ms. Cutignola and Mr. Berkowitz organized the Irvies by encouraging students and staff to submit videos of their talents. The award winners will be presented throughout the two shows by student council members.
Though it was challenging to make the Irvies available to everyone online, Ms. Cutignola believes it shows the commitment of the student council community.
Ms. Cutignola hopes “to remind our school and the whole community of Irvington that we are Bulldog Strong. The mission of the Irvington Choice Awards was initially, and continues to be, an opportunity to bring the High School community together and to celebrate all that makes us who we are.”
Hopefully many will tune in to enjoy the second annual Irvies to spread some joy and unite the Irvington community.
