The 2019-20 budget for the Irvington Union Free School District and the proposed Capital Bond Project both passed with comfortable vote margins on Tuesday night.
The Irvington Schools District annual budget is $62,953,554 and the Bond project (a budget neutral plan of over $18 million) will be used to improve security, roofing, walkways, athletic storage, energy efficiency, air conditioning, learning spaces, and more.
Notably, all public school districts in the both Westchester and Rockland saw their budgets approved as well.
In Dobbs Ferry, the school budget is $46,482,88. Ardsley’s budget is $72,348,771 and will be used to authorize an energy performance contract. The Tarrytown schools’ budget is $78,966,817 and will be used to improve transportation. The highest budget passed will cost taxpayers in White Plains school district $226,588,509.
The Capital Bond Project for Irvington Schools is working to improve school safety, infrastructure, energy conservation, and learning spaces.
The bond will enclose the campus for security reasons and improve entryways by adding vestibules, installing safety film on windows, installing card access doors, and reducing the number of entry points.
Many of the concerns that were brought to light in the Paw Print’s previous article Irvington’s Security Shift, such as the openness of the campus and the lack of a dedicated security entrance at the high school, have been addressed in the Capital Bond Project.
