On Thursday, April 11th, Principal Dave Cohen sent out an email informing the community that he will be leaving Irvington at the end of the school year to take a job as principal of Jericho High School in Long Island.
In his email, he wrote, “I write to you today with personal excitement, as well as a heavy heart. Recently, a professional opportunity arose for me that allows me to better merge my professional life with my personal life. At the end of the school year I will be leaving IHS to become Principal of another high school on Long Island.”
Superintendent Kristopher Harrison also sent out an email regarding Cohen’s departure stating: “Over the past six years, the IHS community has been fortunate to have Dave Cohen guiding our excellent school. His partnership with faculty, staff, students and parents has continued to enhance the entire high school program and experience.”
The district plans to begin the search for a new high school principal in the coming days. Some students have speculated internal movement within the district, mentioning Mr. Samuelson and Mr. Sottile as possible replacements.
It is also unknown how his departure will affect plans for a new Master Schedule to be instituted in the 2020-21 school year.
