For over two weeks, people with AT&T cell service have been struggling to connect to the internet. The poor reception has prevented the ability to send or receive text messages and calls, as well as impeding students’ ability to access Google Drive and Classroom.
AT&T representative “Maurice” confirmed that the company has received many complaints about the poor cell service in Irvington.
The cell tower, located about half a mile from the campus, reportedly has no apparent issues. “Maurice” was unsure of the problem, as the system said the network seemed to be functioning normally.
As a result of the many complaints that have been reported, workers are investigating the cell tower. “Maurice” believes that the cell service would be operating effectively again in a few days.
However, for the time being, “Maurice” advises all AT&T users to enable “WiFi Calling” on their phones. This feature allows people to make calls over WiFi without needing cell reception.
For iPhones, “WiFi Calling” can be enabled by going into settings, clicking “Phone,” then tap “WiFi Calling.” Hit the switch next to “WiFi Calling on This iPhone” to turn on this feature. Luckily, “WiFi Calling” comes with no additional charge and should not impact data.
