If your family is looking for a long ski/snowboard vacation, they may look to places in states like Vermont, Colorado, and Utah. However, just 90 minutes away from Irvington is a great place to take day/weekend trips to the mountain.
Mountain Creek Resort is great for everyone. The mountain has four peaks (Granite, Vernon, Bear, and South) connected by a shuttle bus and a chairlift on the mountain. Granite peak and Vernon peak are more for family skiing, while South peak and Bear peak are a bit different.
Featuring several terrain park features and night skiing, South and Beak peaks attracts more of a younger crowd who are looking to get some good tricks in with friends. South Peak also has more difficult terrain, accessible by a blue trail and only featuring blue squares and black diamonds. This draws families to the easier, more friendly terrain at Granite and Vernon Peaks.
Some students at IHS have had the chance to hit the mountain already this year. Senior Ben Hunt took a day trip over break. “The terrain park side (South and Bear) is pretty nice. I’d definitely want to to go more again this year.”
Irvington student Brett Clinton went with his family during the break as well. “It was a really good day to go. The winds made it cold, but still was a good day overall. Food sucked though.”
Offering four peaks and 167 acres of ski-able area and 100% night skiing, Mountain Creek is no Killington but it gets the job done for a quick trip. There is enough terrain there to not get bored, but not too much to where you feel as if you have not skied the whole mountain.
