Are you struggling in class, but the thought of spending even more time with your teacher is out of the question? Enter Irvington’s new cadre of student tutors.
A tutoring program, run by the National Honor Society, pairs tutors with students based on mutual availability and the strengths of each tutor in a specific class/field.
Senior tutor Abby Stein said, “Working one-on-one with a student can really help them improve in a subject that they are struggling with.”
Students can be referred to the program by their teachers if they are struggling. Students then meet with their tutors to hit the books in a location such as the school or public library during a mutual free period or after school.
Along with helping a student academically, peer help can help students branch out socially and increase their motive/drive to work hard in school.
“It’s a good idea because some students can benefit from each other’s strengths to help them in school,” junior Matthew Melynchuk said.
