The recent renovations and addition of extensive amenities at the Jewish Community Center on the Hudson has garnered the attention of Irvington High School students.
The facility now boasts a commodious gym, pool, sauna, and an expansive basketball court among other things.
Senior Matthew Lazarus, a regular, shares his personal preference over the school gym.
“Honestly the environment is more serious, the school gym becomes more of a hangout spot for kids with nothing to do after school, and gets noisy and crowded.”
Many students express their fondness for other aspects of the JCC as well.
“I love how close it is to where I live, and how it is a community of people I know and am comfortable with,” said Antonia Abramowitz, senior.
Senior Elizabeth Hargraves said, “It’s clean—all the machines work well. It’s close, and it looks very sanitized [whereas] the New York Sports Club looks grungy and unclean.”
While many emphasize its convenience to home and overall tidiness, Danny Abarca, also senior, takes note in an otherwise underwhelming feature.
“The JCC has several TVs throughout its gym. I love catching up on news while I’m running and working out.”
Senior Ellie Papapanou said, “All my friends have memberships.”
The JCC is certainly a popular choice among students because offers the best luxuries at an affordable cost.
