As seniors are working diligently with their schoolwork in and out of the classroom, something stressful always comes up: The College Application. If filling out information once isn’t time-consuming enough, try typing the same information in three times.
While most schools operate using the common application, some schools have changed their ways and now accept the “coalition” application. Additionally, the state school system in California requires its own application. Three schools could mean three applications.
If that wasn’t enough, the essays will get you. Aside from the standard college essay, students applying to good schools often have to fill out supplemental essays, which in some cases is another 250-500 word essay.
Nikki Kandler described the process in three words: “Stressful, strenuous, and stupid”.
Getting these done is very difficult, and can pile on large lumps of work for students around major deadlines.
“College supplements, not even including the application takes up too much time. You have to finish it though,” said senior Benjamin Hunt. “With out of school activities such as working a part time job or doing a varsity sport, you end up with very little free time.”
This annoying, yet necessary application is not simply filled out in an hour. It is a multi step process that requires very detailed instructions and due dates.
With all this stress, the deadlines are what students can find most tricky. Early decision and early action deadlines are set for either November 1st or 15th can have students panicked up until the last minute.
