After a a district and community online vote, IHS Student Class President Jordan Sahawneh and Vice President Dorian Barber announced at a June 6 board of education meeting that a student design had been selected to be Irvington’s new school district logo.
The design features a large “I”, encircled with “Irvington Union Free School District”; the Latin phrase Per aspera ad astra, meaning “through hardships to the stars”; and the year 1856.
The logo was developed by Irvington High School students Alexandra Powell, Maya Castiblanco, Julia Herceg and Katherina Kovalevskaya.
“The Board of Education and Administration extend their congratulations to our designers and also thanks the other students who submitted designs,” wrote Dr. Kristopher Harrison,
Superintendent in an email to the community. “The new logo will now go through final adjustments for publication purposes before it is officially launched as the official logo.”
