After a controversial launch of possible new logos for the district, Irvington turned to its students to create a new district brand that will appear on the district web site, publications and other official documents. Voting opened on Friday, June 2 for the six designs chosen as finalists, and will end on June 5.
Students and staff can vote for one of the six designs using the following link: http://bit.ly/irvingtonlogo.
Five of the six designs include the Latin phrase Per aspera ad astra, meaning “through hardships to the stars.”
On Thursday, June 1, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kristopher Harrison announced the opening of voting in an email to the community:
“The District Logo Selection Committee, comprised of two Board of Education Members, the Superintendent, five faculty members, and 11 students representing all four schools, met on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 to review the 17 designs that were submitted. 16 of the designs were submitted by current Irvington students. Committee members independently reviewed and rated each design in accordance with the criteria outlined in the Logo Requirements document that was previously published on the District website. After the Committee met, six designs rose to the top and will now go to the students and staff for a vote which is set to begin Friday, June 2 with the poll closing Monday, June 5 at 8:00 a.m.”
