Atlanta is a new hit drama/comedy on FX premiering on september 6, quickly becoming one of FX’s most exciting new shows. Starring Donald Glover, otherwise known as hit rapper Childish Gambino, Atlanta tells the story of a Princeton dropout trying to ride the fame of his talented cousin PaperBoi. Glover quickly finds himself managing PaperBoi as they go through the different struggles of money, law, and fame.
Donald Glover erupted onto the acting scene as he played supporting roles in Movies such as The Martian, The Lazarus Effect, and Magic Mike XXL. Before these acting roles, Glover also made many hit albums which brought him into the rap game as well. Glover’s many albums show his relation to Atlanta, and even relate to his life story to the character he plays in Atlanta, Earn.
Atlanta samples many different rappers from Atlanta to act in the TV show, and shows the interaction between rappers and actors in a real and raw way. Starring Brian Tyree Henry (PaperBoi), and Keith Stanfield (Darius), along with Donald Glover it allows the viewer to see the lives of aspiring rappers from all over .
The acting in Atlanta is different, real, and elaborate. Its use of the actors young emotions develops a unique feel, and allows the viewer to feel like he or she is almost in the story. The contrast between Earn and PaperBoi allows the viewer to focus on the difference between the two actors, and shows how talented they are.
